Heron Island Days Pt 10

Okay, so before I start ANYTHING I just have to rant for a bit. You know Pat. One of the best cooks ever?! He’s done it again. He made something that I like even more than apple pie. It was this weird mishmash of fruit and cake and cream that was so great in texture and taste I savored every bite!!!! I’m sorry. This has been his best dish so far. And do you wanna know the greatest part?!?!?!? He told me how to make it so I can do it myself again. I’m so proud of myself. I went out of my comfort zone and talked to a person I didn’t know very well, and I got an absolutely great recipe (with suggested variations as well) to keep with me. I mean, dinner was great too! It was this yellow coconut curry that was actually pretty good (still prefer tiki masala myself). However, dessert was just to die for.

Now that that is out of the way I can talk about the extremely boring day I had today. Our group was more or less stuck in the lab from after breakfast (delicious quiches) to after lunch (pasta dish with this beautiful garlic bread). Tea time was apricot and coconut muffins, which have been my second favorite so far (I liked the ones with strawberry jam and apricot the most) We then had to write up our report and make our presentation for our final project that is due tomorrow. That was okay. I felt like I was doing a majority of the work, which made me a little upset, but one my group members is pretty sick and miserable, and the other is just a little flighty so I don’t blame them too much. I mean, they always seem to make me clean up after each run with the microscopes, but the joke was on them, because when I went to go and dump our samples, I got to witness a baby turtle (probably a loggerhead given the timing and location) get all the way to the ocean. At least he seems to have survived the initial plunge. Karma, baby. Everyone else has only seen the baby turtles here bet massacred by birds or sharks.

One of the best parts of my day was actually interspersed between the less fun moments. I got to text Maren on and off for a good chunk of my morning to afternoon session with the microscopes. Then, when we were working on our lab and presentation, I got to text Mom about Mas and Dad. They just got home today, so that was awesome. I even saw some pictures of the things they brought back. We finished our presentation and lab report pretty soon after Mom went to bed, so I just lied low in the library until it was time to take group pictures at the jetty. We got some pretty good pictures in there, so I’m excited to see how they turned out. The whole group just messed around the jetty again today as we waited for the non-existent sunset. The weather’s still been cloudy and windy, but we might try to get one last swim out tomorrow morning around 10 am. Here’s to hoping that it all goes well.
