So Much to do, So Little Time

Hello everyone!

This week has been very, very busy. And tiring.

Monday wasn’t super bad. I mean, the GTA meeting for this week let me know ahead of time that there was a lot to do for teaching. I spent a good hour afterwards just making the powerpoint and preparing for my lesson after spending a lot of the previous Friday already doing that. EvoDevo didn’t even really give me much of a break, considering we were talking about bugs and evolvability, which meant I had a hard time absorbing any of the information. It was so boring. Maren and Emily were gone after 12 on Monday, leaving me with a lot of free time to just work. But when lab came and went, it kind of went sideways. We couldn’t do discussion groups because only five people showed up. But those that did pulled their weight and it lasted for a little over an hour. I then just came home and watched Clone Wars while writing Harry Potter fanfiction.

Tuesday’s lab lasted longer, but even less people showed up, which sucked, but I felt more prepared for no one showing up. Neuroendo was boring this week, since we talked about affiliation behavior and social interactions.  A lot of it involved romantic behavior, so maybe that’s why? I don’t know. It was just hard to pay attention to. The seminar that day wasn’t much better. I thought it would be super fun and entertaining since it was about domestication in dogs and foxes. But no. It was super boring. The only cool parts were the videos that showed the difference in aggressive/low tolerance breeds of foxes and the friendly ones. After that, I called it a day and cooked curry, then played Sky and Minecraft for a while. I was kind of just done.

This ‘done’-ness extended into Wednesday. I had a student cancel on me (who also cancelled on me for Thursday and then never turned in the assignment, but it’s fine.) for my morning Zoom meeting. I also found out that I will be TAing Human Anatomy next semester, which means cadavers so… yay…? I don’t know how I feel about that yet. EvoDevo wasn’t much better from Monday, just because I didn’t really understand the reading all that much, but I still understood enough to discuss it which is something. I had other meetings with students throughout the day, and between all of these things, I just sat around and read. I didn’t want to do much that day. And then we went to a social hang out with video games from 6 until 10:30 which was crazy fun. I got to talk about Star Wars and have three new book series I want to try out. But by the end of Wednesday? I was very much wiped out.

Thursday was a Thursday. Molly taught Intro to Grad Studies and I actually paid attention to what she discussed, which was Writing Productively in the science field. She’s a really good lecturer and teacher. 10/10 I would recommend. Neuroendo had some internet troubles because Maren and Emily both had classes at the same time. Thankfully, aggressive behavior is a rather simple concept to understand so I don’t feel like I missed much. And all the lectures are recorded. The Freeman Meeting…. Was a bit of a mess. I was the one leading it this week and I felt like everything left my brain as soon as I entered the Zoom meeting. I also had some internet troubles there, but Sara was understanding which helped me feel better. After that though, the night turned better. Karin, Tim and Allie came over and hung out for a while. We had Morty’s for dinner, which meant no one had to cook, and I had my craving for fries fulfilled. We also talked about wedding plans for Karin and Tim, and other things. I also ended up getting a lot of compliments on my portion of the Neuroendo paper outline, which made me feel a little better due to my frustrations with my partner, who got more ‘fix this’ comments.

Friday… Friday was hell. I did soooooo much grading. 3 HOURS of grading. It started out nice enough with therapy. I got to tell the therapist about Karin and Tim, and how I’ve been dealing better with teaching. It made me feel like I accomplished something. And then the slog of TA work began. I sent out announcements, worked on prepping for next week’s classes, and did a butt-load of grading. Enough to make my brain melt. And then Maren and Emily had over a friend from USU eastern who was visiting come over. He was alright, but he works at a beekeeping place and kept on talking about bees which sucked. I now know that all bees have “stingers” for reproductive reasons, it’s just that only some of them are hard enough to puncture skin. So yeah… now I know that. Great thing to know. *sweatdrops* Anyways, it was great once he’d left. We even played some Among Us tonight with Karin, Tim, and some friends, which was… fun.

So yeah, that’s been my week. I mean today I’ll be going shopping for groceries and working through my EvoDevo paper outline, and my Neruoenedo class assignments. So I’ll be busy today. Yay…

Anyways, talk to you later!
