Hey everybody. I think I forgot to do last week’s blog update because my family was in town, so I’ll apologize for that. I will also apologize because I didn’t take any notes for this week, so I’m a little iffy on all the details since a lot of this week was a blur because it was just a little bit stressful.
Monday was a rough start, I’ll admit. I got up to go the TA
meeting, and I memorized a whole bunch of steps that I had to take later that
day since Andy asked us to proctor the first Lecture Exam, which was insane.
There is probably around 250-300 students in the class, so it was a lot. We had
to do a head count, but I can’t remember what the number was. It was a bit
tricky, since the exam was in the middle of the two labs that I taught so I had
to run from one building to the other while the students got a head start. Yeah,
it really sucked. The labs were fine that they though, and no one came to
office hours. I even got a few laughs out of my second class, which I didn’t
get last time, though the main people that kind of gave me the stink eye last
week weren’t there so… who knows. TAing is hard, and I really don’t like it,
even if it is slowly becoming my norm. Why do people choose to be teachers
again? That makes no sense. I more than kind of can’t wait to be done with it,
even if it means I don’t get paid.
Tuesday was normal I guess. I was very drained from the previous
day, so I kind of kept myself at low energy to make up for it. We’re talking
about adaptive immunity now, which involves all the T and B cells. I’m still
thinking of Cells at Work almost constantly during class, but it’s a little
more detail now. We’re talking about a lot of cell signaling so I’m very much
in my jam, even if it’s a LOT of material all being thrown at once. Honestly it’s
hard to wrap my brain around some of the genetic aspects of somatic recombination,
but I’m getting there. Anyways, after class I was able to come home and chill
for a while, which was nice. I know I got something done during that time, but
I can’t remember what, so it was probably a social thing? I don’t know *shrugs*.
I know I drove up to campus for Radiation Safety training that took place instead
of lab meeting, because afterwards I went over to Maren’s and she showed me the
new pokemon game and we chatted. Needless to say, I have that now, and I used
Cyndaquil as my starter. His name is Noodles, and he is lovely. XD
Wednesday was surprisingly productive. I went up to campus a
little early so that I could do brain prep before class. After class, I rushed
back and started to get to work on slicing, because I had a meeting with Sara
during my work time. I talked with her about the current ‘issues’ I was having
and my plans, and she’s on my side, thankfully, but I have to talk to my
committee now, and that is NOT something I look forward to. Necessary step
though… Anyways, I had a really good slicing day (and week if I’m honest) and
my brains turned out real nice. I even got to go home early, and I used that to
build one of my bridges on Minecraft. That took a lot out of my brain, for some
reason, and I went to bed pretty soon after.
Thursday was busy like always. I went to class again, and
there were tech issues galore. After that I wrote all the rest of my pre-lab
quizzes since I just wanted them done with, and then printed off the materials
for next week. I ended up seeing Alli and Kenzie on campus during that time,
which was cool. I then went up for another slicing shift, and ended up finally
finding something to talk to Matthew about with: pokemon, the most obvious
answer. It wasn’t too bad of a weird in between time with the two labs (work
and TAing duty). I got a lot done—emails, research proposal, arranging meetings,
etc. Teaching was alright that night, even though Maddi had a sub who was a
little… awkward to say the least. I called my parents on the walk home and just
chatted until I got back and ate before I ended up getting caught up in Just
Dance with my roommates. I crashed hard after that, even though I was pretty buzzy
by the end of it.
Friday was so nice and relaxing, it was honestly so nice. I
got all the laundry done, and I mean ALL the laundry. I did like five loads to get
it all done. I also went on a small walk to Maren’s place and back after we’d
hung out for a few hours. I still did all of my adult duties like setting up appointments.
It was a lovely day, and I did a lot of pokemon things too, which was great.
Saturday (today) was kind of another forced relax day. I had
a nasty headache when I woke up that lasted until around 3 or 4. I didn’t do
much but lay in bed. At one point I got sick of my room and went upstairs to
watch Ducktales since everyone was gone today for most of it. It was lovely—my brain
has just kind of latched onto that and not wanting to let it go. Louie and Lena are the main characters of interest
as always, which means a lot of fanfiction… woo-oo. XD. But yeah, I’m hoping
tomorrow is better—and I have stuff I want to draw, so hopefully I’ll get to
that tomorrow. Until then, bye!
