Hey Everyone!
You know how I said today would probably be long and boring, well, it looks like I was wrong! It was actually pretty nice today, except for Stats which was the first part of the day, but that's skipping ahead. I actually ate breakfast with Hannah and Alex today, making myself a egg and bacon sandwich with a small bagel. It reminded me of Saturdays at home, even if the eggs were a little under salted. It was a good way to start the day. I headed to Stats right after, and it was boring like I mentioned earlier. I actually was able to figure out the practice problems before she went over them in class, so the class has yet to be challenging. It'll probably get harder as things go forward, but until then I'll just have to struggle with entertaining myself in class.
After Stats, I headed back to the dorm and started to work on the homework, but it soon became frustrating because it was over something that we had only talked about briefly in class, so I'll probably try to get help with understanding the question either from Mason or from recitation tomorrow. Instead, I worked on my Stats quiz, and got a hundred percent on it, so feeling good about that at least. And the last little bit of time I had during that break between classes was study for my ASL exam. I then had to hurry to have lunch and I tried something new today. It was called corn salsa and it was pretty good. It was probably the only piece of food with flavor in the burrito that I had for lunch (the carne asada here is awful compared to home cooking). I was kind of thankful that I had to rush through eating just so I wouldn't taste the blandness (I put the corn salsa to the side and basically ate as much of it as possible).
Once again, institute is awesome here, and my teacher is great. We talked a little bit more about agency and stuff, but he was sharing a lot of funny stories (most of them about his speeding ticket collection, but hey) while also keeping things serious. There is also this dude in my class who has a really cool name. I don't know how it is spelled, but his biological name (he's from out of the country but I don't know where from) is pronounced like "me". It was so cool!!!! I know it's probably not normal to think weird names are the best thing ever, but it was funny to see the teacher just look at him and try and figure out if the guy was yanking his chain.
After that, I had my usual time before Ecology to work on stuff, so I started to look over the Pre-lab for next week's lecture, and it doesn't seem too bad. I'll probably do that this weekend. I still need to turn my paperwork tomorrow, so I don't know how much time I'll have to do it tomorrow with the Stats homework, but that's good. Keeping busy on weekends is a good thing. Ecology was boring up until they talked about aquatic ecology for like ten minutes before returning to the stuff I wasn't necessarily interested in (like kelp forests and stuff like that, I'd rather learn about the different levels in the oceans than learn about why kelp forests exist on cooler coasts, like seriously?!? Talk to me about coral reefs for at least more then 2.5 minutes!). I spent a fair amount of time in my class thinking over possible studies about phyto-plankton to tell the truth, so yeah, I was pretty bored in that class too.
After Ecology I sadly wasn't done yet, as I still had to head over to my Organic Chemistry class for the day. It was fairly entertaining as the teacher messed up on the clicker slides (again) and I'm actually feeling more confident about what we are learning because I actually am able to follow what we are doing in class. It was a really confidence booster and I'm feeling pretty good. Now, only if I felt that good about the lab section for it and I would be golden.
Finally, my school day was done, or at least the class portion of it. I decided earlier on in the day that I would be taking my ASL final, and boy was it challenging. I knew the material but it still took me a while to piece what was being said on the screen, as sometimes the hands in the videos moved too quickly for me to get so I had to re-watch the videos over and over until I finally understood what was being said. There are two or three questions (free answer sadly) that I am not sure about, but the rest of it seemed to go pretty well. I at least go the gist of the sentences they were doing on those three questions so even if I get them wrong I should still get partial credit (I'm hoping). The exam took a lot longer than I expected and I was soon heading off to eat dinner with Hannah, Kamryn, and Alex.
We all went to the marketplace, where I surprisingly felt adventurous once again and tried something new. It was actually fairly okay. It was steak with this tomato sauce on top of fries with corn on the cob to the side. I've been craving something for weeks, but I was never able to figure out what it was until today. I've been craving corn! Freaking corn! I ate that stuff up while waiting for my friends to get their food since they had to wait in the lines longer than mine. However, it was a delightful dinner, and Kamryn, Alex, and I (since Hannah was off at an SI and wasn't really interested in the first place) decided to all try and go to the Halloween party together as different members of the Bat Family. It's going to be sooooo much fun!
Overall, today was a pretty good day (if you discount the food, it was over all kind of disappointing except for breakfast). I just hope tomorrow will go just as smoothly or even better.
