Visitors!

Hey everyone! A lot of stuff happened this week, so I’m just going to get started, alright? I’ll talk a little bit about Sunday before getting to the main part of the week. Mas, Dad and Grandpa Sully came up this weekend and I got to see them for a little while on Sunday, though it was mostly spent with Dad trying to update the computer for me to be able to play on the family server, which I am able to do now so it’s great! They also dropped off a large shipment of food from home, which was great and I did need it since we couldn’t go shopping on Saturday, and I didn’t have a car until they brought one up. I also played a little bit of Undertale on the switch because I’ve been wanting to play it again for a while now and finally decided to buy it since it wasn’t that much.

Monday was alright, I had the TA meeting, and we talked about the fact that we would be using cadavers starting this week which was a little stressful. I had Andy show me which cadavers we were using just so I would know what was going on come Tuesday. I then worked on preparing some lab exam and normal exam questions for Andy since he needed those this week and got to work on learning the muscles I was teaching (the posterior ones if anyone is curious). Office hours were kind of the same as usual, nobody came, so I worked on my own school work. Nutrient Gene Interactions was really short on Monday (only like 20 minutes long) and we just talked about Vitamin A, which is a fairly cool vitamin. I just like the fact about polar bear livers that everyone brings up when we talk about it. Ben also streamed that day, which I tuned into while making up dinner (Turkey steaks and potatoes) up until the lab meeting which I also just had on while cooking, chiming in on occasion since we were just revisiting what we are doing with the coyotes at the research center. Once that was done, and dinner was served, I hopped onto the server for the night and hung out with Dad and Mas over discord while I built a house for myself.

I may have overexerted myself a little on Tuesday. I woke up at like 7 in the morning and decided I was going to do all the homework I could since Dad was planning on visiting me on Wednesday morning, which is usually my homework day. So, instead I basically did all the prep for my lab on Tuesday before my 1:30 class, which took at least three hours. I also bought an art program that I’ve been mulling over for a couple of months now as well, and hopefully I’ll be able to draw sometime this weekend on it when I’m not busy. Anyways, I then went to class, which was fine, though I did have to bother the TA and teacher a little bit since I asked some clarifying questions that kind of had them stalling to come up with answers. Lab teaching also went well, though the first round was really rough. The cadaver for the posterior was really old when they died so a lot of the muscles were atrophied, and I couldn’t show people the material they were supposed to learn. I thought it was my fault, so I started getting flustered and anxious, but I was able to talk to the TA after class and he told me that the muscles are learned more from the textbook than us, so I don’t feel quite as bad now. This meant the second class went a lot better since I didn’t feel as bad about using figures from the textbook to show them what and where stuff was. I also had to spray the bodies down and learn to suture that night, so I kind of crashed hard and just went home to play on Minecraft on the family server again since I was done.

Wednesday was a lot better. Mas had decided to come with Dad, so I got to show them stuff together. We went to Stacked again, and I tried the banana cream pie pancakes this time, but I have to admit, Mas’s Monte Cristo was better (even if it had ham in it) and I still like the pesto one too. I was also able to show Dad the Origins mod while Mas was taking his test, and I think he liked it. For the rest of the visit, we kind of just messed around on Minecraft until they had to leave to go and grab Grandpa from Kaysville, but I may… have gotten sucked into Minecraft for the rest of the day? I mean, I still did my homework (like my Nutrient Gene Interactions lecture which was only 20 minutes long again and about Vitamin C and the Bs), but I got a lot more done on Minecraft. Maren was gone on a date for most of the evening, so Emily and I kind of just chaotically vibed on the server since Emily wanted to watch me and we went a little crazy. We were laughing so hard we were crying and even when we ordered some Morty’s we were still giggling like maniacs. I’m going to blame lack of sleep for the past couple of night before this though, so… yeah. Anyways, it’s a lot more fun to mine things with someone to joke around with apparently.

Thursday was alright. I finished up the lab notebook thanks to getting another email from my teacher with more clarification and talked with Sara since we needed to push back our usual meeting time to 3 instead. Sadly, it wasn’t a day where food was nice, and I was really anxious, so I didn’t eat much before I left for my labs. My animal molecular biology lab was fun and really short. I pointedly worked with a group of all girls this time, and I ended up working with Caroline (a PhD student in our lab) and we were the first group done today, which was awesome. The teacher let us know the exam was available after the lab, so while I was waiting for my teaching time to start, I worked on my post-lab work and a little of my exam until it was 5:30. I was then, once again teaching the cadavers, though it was pretty short and sweet, so it wasn’t too bad, and I was able to go home and hop back onto the server. I even showed Dad and Mas my new slime boots, which are the best thing ever.

Friday was alright. I took my exam for Nutrient Gene Interactions, and I worked a little bit more on my other take home exam up until I needed to leave for my meeting with Sara. We were just talking about what kinds of things we need to do to prepare before I can start IHC. We might not get to it for a while, but hopefully we’ll find a way to schedule something in so everything can work out. It was pretty sweet, though it sounds like I have a little bit of homework to do before Friday this next week. When I got home, it was time to make dinner again while we waited for Anna and Hannah to show up. When they did, I kind of just… put my headphones on to tune them out while cooking since they were getting settled and making a fuss about parking now that my spot wasn’t available for them to use. I don’t know what this says about me as a person, but it felt kind of good to be like “It’s my spot, sorry not sorry” and just ignore them. I hope that’s not too mean, but… they’re trip here was kind of sudden, as in Anna decided it on Thursday so I didn’t have much time to prepare. I think I’m allowed to be a little blunt. Anyways, we watched Steven Universe—of course—before I retreated to my room eventually to work on my exam again.

Now today… I don’t know what the plan is really. I have some laundry I want to try and do, since my lab coat needs to be washed, but I’m not planning on shopping, since I have plenty of supplies now and even went to the store for some last-minute things on Friday. Other than that, I still have my exam to complete, and my results and conclusion for lab to write, which involves a little math. I’ll probably do that today while hiding in my room if it gets overwhelming in the apartment. And maybe, just maybe I’ll get to draw today. Anyways, see you next week. Bye!
