Roughest of Rough Weeks, but with an Awesome Weekend with Family

 Hello.

I have a lot to get done today, so I’m going to just hop right in. Have fun with my not so great week.

Sunday (not today) was not super fun. I ended up waking up with a migraine, and didn’t go to church since it was not probably a smart idea to do so with said migraine. I however, was able to get up to campus to transfer brains into their new solutions though. I then did some institute stuff so I could at least feel like it was a Sunday and get some spiritual stuff in. The emotional wellness class I have was pretty awesome. It was nice to listen to it while I was laying down and working on the sea turtle poster that Mom gave me. I also got my institute reading done for the week, which was nice.

Monday… was the beginning of a really rough week. The fire alarms in our house went off around three in the morning. There wasn’t a fire, we realized after the first time it turned off and on again. They would go on for five or three minutes, and then turn off long enough for us to think it was over only to start again. I ended up staying in a hotel for the rest of that morning and the night after that since we found out that no one could come in to repair things on Labor Day since no one was on call. It was a really big frustrating bummer. It also left me feeling exhausted for the rest of the day besides the naps and stuff that I took. I also had things I needed to do, like one more round of transferring solutions with the brains, creating a presentation and doing the reading for Tuesday’s Neuro class, and working on TA stuff. I was, however, able to have some fun by reading through an old favorite fanfiction that was over 500,000 words. I love it so much.

Tuesday was just kind of weird because everything was out of sorts after the awful Monday. Our Eternal Family institute class teacher was gone this week so we had a substitute. She was kind of awkward and very old fashioned so we had to do group work which wasn’t fun. Sydney and Patrick (from the Mountain View ward) finally realized I was in the same class as them and said hi to me. I went from that to a meeting with Kezia, the WILD 6500 teacher I have since we had to set up a one on one appointment with her to get to know each other. She asked a lot of questions about my research area and learning style, and it was a very intensely draining meeting, which left me exhausted before I even ended up at Sara’s class. I presented on glia, which was easy and pretty fun at least, but the class seemed to drag with how my energy was flagging. It was on how signaling outside of the cell works, which I have a decent understanding of, so it was mostly review with a little bit more detail. I came home and crashed pretty hard after all that. I did have a “rough moment” after getting spooked by a weird noise from upstairs (vacuum cleaner—I know, pretty silly), but Allie was an awesome roomie and got me calmed down by making some hot chocolate and popcorn, and sitting down with me to watch Scooby-doo.

Wednesday started really late since I was still recovering from Tuesday. I worked on math homework for a really long time, but I just ended up feeling pretty dumb while fumbling my way through it because of how the questions were worded vaguely. I got a fair amount done before deciding the rest was probably something we hadn’t learned yet. People finally showed up at the house to fix the fire alarms while I was doing this, but then left after deciding they didn’t know how( and they never came back… so we still have no functioning fire alarms and it’s been a week, which yikes). After that, I set up for my Q&A session for TAing, but three questions were asked and then we were left alone for the full hour. We’re moving the time up next Wednesday to the mornings because of how it turned out, and because the SI session which was cancelled this Wednesday was supposed to be held at the same time. This is also when I realized I messed up on a question on the quiz, which haunted me for the rest of the week.

Thursday was… frustrating and very not good. Because of my screw up on the wording of the one question and the fact that no one read the announcement I sent out, there were so many emails about it. I ended up almost in tears at one point trying to stop myself from a meltdown halfway through the day just because I had gotten fifteen emails during an already crummy institute class (a lot of rotating group work, ugh). I kind of shut down a little bit after my almost crying session. After being chased by two bees while I was just trying to eat food, I just went to the biology building to deal with all the emails. I felt like I was going to explode from being so upset, but I just breathed and played with the fidget cube I had on me. Neuro class was hard to pay attention to since I was so worked up, which sucked because we have a text next week which I’m nervous as heck about. By the time I was going home, I was ready to cry again, which wasn’t helped when two more bees blocked the stairs to the door, so I had to run through them and hope they didn’t try and get in my backpack like one of the other ones from that morning. I crashed, mostly asleep on the bed after that. I wasn’t unconscious, but it was close enough to a nap to make everything seem a little bit better. I even went upstairs to hang out with my roommates for a few minutes before hiding away back downstairs.

Friday was not as bad as Thursday, but not super better—like I mentioned previously, this week was rough. I was running on four to five hours of sleep and trying to understand the math going on in the WILD 6500 class at 8 in the morning…. Not fun. I then came back and walked for a while because I needed to get myself calmed down enough to sit down and plow through the rest of the math homework. It worked, and while Philza’s stream was on in the background, I got the homework done in a fairly decent amount of time, which was a big relief. It, however, meant I was too mentally drained to do any studying that day, which was fine because Mason got in town. I talked with my roommates until I got a text from him and went to go and pick him up. We went out to Tandoori where we talked about possible minors for him to try out if he was going to stay in college for a little while longer and it was fun, despite how chaotic everything was because of the football game that night. They ended up postponing the game anyways because it started raining almost as soon as Mason and I got back to my place. I drove him back afterwards so he could do some studying, and then came home and crashed for a little while longer watching youtube.

Saturday… well, it started out bad but it ended up being really great. I was woken up by Mom panicking and asking me about how to get to the engineering building because Mason was in the wrong area for the GRE he was taking. So after giving instructions and not hearing from Mas after that, I ended up trekking through campus in the rain to see if he was in testing. It really sucked since I got distracted talking to Mom and ended up getting my shoes and socks soaked in a puddle during the process, and we didn’t find Mas or his car so we had to assume he was testing. I was still pretty amped and distressed by the time that I came home, and I ended up talking with Annie who was kicked out of her room for the moment because Abby’s in a mood again. We eventually saw that Allie was ‘awake’ around noon and went to go bother her right as Mason got out of the testing center. Mas picked me up to go to Firehouse Subs, where I got bothered by ANOTHER BEE (They’re evil I swear), and we did some errands. I was pretty snappish the entire time, which I felt bad about, but Mas is a good sport and dropped me off at my place so I could calm down. I ended up not doing that because I waited around for when Allie would be available to show her a video she said we could watch that day, but she and a lot of the other girls were busy and I didn’t want to bother them. So I stayed in the same room (bad idea), and waited (worse idea), and barely started to breach the topic when I saw Dad pull up since he and Mas had met up and left Mom at the hotel. I was pretty upset at this point, and while we were setting up the cabinet downstairs, I did have a small meltdown. It was rough, but I got through it and Dad suggested we get out of the overstimulating heck-hole that my apartment can be, and so we left.

By the time we got to the hotel, I was trying to push back tears because everything kind of caught up with me. Mom gave me a hug and I just ended up crying on her until I felt better. Took a nap too, while they went to go get food, which helped since I hadn’t slept well at all this week. Mom, Dad, and Mas are all amazing and life savers. We got good food, some pretty decent fancy drinks, watched Batman Begins, and we went swimming, before going to Karie Anne’s again and got gelati. I slept so well last night, it was amazing. Weird dreams though, I don’t recommend combining Broadway-stage Phantom of the Opera with Star Wars. Breakfast was good for a hotel, and we just got to chill and hang after that until check out. Mom helped me set up Harry Potter themed signs for my cabinet, which was awesome, and we got everything oriented before hanging out on the porch. Now they’ve left and I’m here writing my blog after reading through the institute stuff for this week. I’m making spaghetti tonight with the fancy noodles Mom bought me that are all different colors—because spaghetti makes everything better, especially with colored noodles. I still have a few more things to do as well, so I’ll end things here.

Hopefully this next week, even with the exam, will be significantly better than this week (even if this weekend was the best I’ve had in what feels like a really long time). Wish me luck! Bye.
