Hello everyone!
(First, slightly random, thought. I love the name of the blog! It's awesome! Thanks Mom!)
Today was a pretty good day. After finding out that, yes, I can wake up to my phone's alarm, I got ready for the day. I knew I had a small list of things that I wanted to get done today so I got started as soon as I was done with breakfast. After a (not so) quick phone call with my mom, I washed most of my dishes (save for the pots and pans under the bed) and got used to the fact that my dorm room was mine. I had talked over when I would be going to go and get my ID from the Student Center, and had planned to meet up with Kamryn (a friend from church) as she needed to get some paperwork done and had already gotten her ID.
Thank goodness she knew what she was doing. I didn't know what room to go into until she actually steered me (grabbing my arm a bit) and turned me around to go into one of the offices that was pretty inconspicuous and kind of out of sight. Then, while she was getting some paperwork for herself I was sent to the Card Office to take a picture. The lady there was really nice and let me look at the photo for approval, even let me take it once more when I realized my smile was a little gummy (which, when is it not?). With my ID fresh off the press, Kamryn and I headed towards the food joint near the Student Center...
Needless to say, we decided to go to the Junction, another cafeteria right outside of our respective dorms instead. The place was huge! There were different areas you could choose meals from, like the Saute section, the Chef Bar, the Toasted Section, and even a bakery. I went to the Chef Bar and got some really good potato wedges (though I still hold that the ones from Ridley's in Kuna is better), a two chicken tenders (oh my gosh they put Chick-Fil-A to shame), and some broccoli and cauliflower. I then noticed there was a giant drink section and went to go see what they offered to drink. I expected the sodas but it made my day when they had a whole machine dedicated to fruit juice. They had orange juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, and, the one that grabbed my focus, peach juice. It was so good! (If you can't tell by now, Lunch was pretty much the highlight of my day).
Halfway through eating our meal, a girl walked over to us and asked if she could sit with us. She said that we looked like fairly nice people, and she didn't have any friends to sit with. A few moments later we were sitting down and chatting about the normal college small talk (What building are you from? What made you decide USU? What's your degree? etc.). That was when I noticed her phone case. It was the Marauders Map! I immediately stopped what I was saying and told her that I loved Harry Potter and that her phone case was cool. Then followed a long conversation where we talked about different shows and fandoms that we had in common. I wasn't expecting to find a fellow Otaku and book nerd. Nor was I expecting to find out that she had a younger sister with Asperger's Syndrome. What were the chances? Come to find out, Alex, who I had learned was her name by now, has ADHD and OCD tendencies. It was nice to meet with another non-neurotypical who was just as geeky as I am.
By this point in time, Kamryn had gone to a job interview and Alex had to head off to a 504 meeting with someone on campus, so I was once again left alone. I had a fairly decent call with Mason where we talked about Mr. Jacob being his "lovely" self. So trying my luck, I decided to go get my books and residency papers. After a really long stop at the ATM where I was probably stuck for a good ten minutes trying to figure it out before giving in and contacting Mom for instructions, I was able to get my books and residency papers. Since I was in the area, I walked over to the Institute building and found some sister missionaries (I think one might have been Australian from her accent, which was cool) who were able to tell me that there wouldn't be an FHE until the 3rd of September, but there would be a "Summer Bash" tonight.
Low and behold, I didn't want to go so I just nodded and smiled and headed back to Mountain View Tower. That was when I met Becca. I was trying to be nice and sociable, and complimented her on earning her honor bee as shown by her medallion necklace and bee charm. She then asked me if I was going to go to the "Bash". When I told her I wasn't a large crowds person and wasn't really planning on going, she of course made it her mission to get me to go anyways. She and her sister, Allison (who I share O CHEM with apparently, and who also enjoys Voltron and Harry Potter), had me come with them as we went down the road to the church near Snow Hall. That of course wasn't the place where the "Bash" was being held. We ran into two of their friends, Christopher and Jeff, who were trying to find the place too. We wandered toward another church until I finally remembered that I had taken a picture of the flyer with the address on it and pulled it out. Turns out it was on the other side of town (around 1.3 miles from our current location). We soon carpooled over and that was when I realized I had made the biggest mistake.
It was a Multi-Stake event. That meant what seemed to be over 500 people were all in line waiting for Domino's pizza to show up. It was madness, and by the time we got to the place where there was food, they were out of pizza. The boys and Becca wanted to stay, while Allison and I decided to leave. So, leaving the car behind, Allison and I walked back to our resident halls, which I later found out were over 2 miles from the "Summer Bash" location. So I quickly showered and ate, too exhausted to deal with people at the Lilo and Stitch movie night held for the whole campus, even if I wanted to watch Lilo and Stitch (because honestly, that move is the best).
And that leads me to here, where I am writing this extremely over-long post about my day. Sorry if it takes a while to read. I'm rambly (don't know if that's a word but I'm gonna use it) when I'm tired. And I think I get free reign considering part of the title involves the world rambling.
So good night y'all.
