Hey Everybody!
I'm so done after today. After a whole night of tossing and turning, I finally had to get out of bed and confront the reality that I would be going to a new ward today. Getting out of bed, I hurried to go and eat breakfast, after which, I went to the fake kitchen on our floor. That is when I meant Anna. Strange how I keep on making friends in the weirdest ways. Anna turned out to be pretty nice as we talked. We had similar interests (to the point where she invited me over to her room to have anime nights when we weren't busy or tired) and I also found out that she was LDS. That was a god send as I had been worried about who to go with to church, as the only other member on the floor was a bit intimidating when I first met her. Anna didn't know where or when our church met, so I let her know and then went back to my room to get ready for church.
A little later I realized that my new friend probably know how to do hair, and so I popped by her place to ask for a favor: put my hair in a braid. She was kind about it and we exchanged some stories about favorite animes, our love for dogs, and the fact that she was from Texas (I told her that was where my parents had met and the conversation devolved from there). It was soon time for lunch, and Anna didn't know where the food place was, so she asked me, and we kind of switched being the leader as we went to get lunch and then went to church.
As I kind of expected, the first day of church was pretty awkward, with over emotional bishopric spouses, and lots and lots of "bonding" activities that just made me want to hide. It didn't help that I kept on wanting to talk about fish during the lesson on Jonah, as I, for some reason, made the connection to Seahorses, who throw up their young. Needless to say, it wasn't as fun as I was hoping, but the teacher for the day was pretty cool and funny, being an RM with a sense of humor. We had Sacrament meeting last, as 4 wards meet at the same time in a double chapel. It was kind of awkward with all of the bishopric getting emotional about meeting their wives and then telling stories about how we need to 'include everyone'. By the end of church I was rather done, and ready to freak out a bit.
On the walk home I was able to calm down a bit, listening to the people around me. However, they were soon trying to bring me into the conversation which made me a little more anxious. I felt near tears by the time I got home because I just wanted people to stop talking to me. That was when I found out my roommate had returned, that Mason's old computer bag was officially not going to work with me, and that my headache wasn't going away. I was done. I kept a smile on my face, though, and hopped on the computer to look into backpacks as Mom instructed me. However, one thing led to another, and my dad called to both help me with computer problems as well as calm me down by talking to me. I miss his hugs so much!!!! Soon it was time to eat dinner, and after inviting Hannah to come with, and putting on a huggie, I was ready to face the world again.
It actually was a bit of fun, as we kind of just ate and wandered around campus. It was soothing to just walk around and talk, even when sometimes I just wanted to sit down and hide. We exchanged a lot of funny stories, which lightened the mood, and I'm pretty sure that Hannah caught onto the fact that I wasn't feeling too great, as she offered me a brownie when we got back. Anna, Hannah, and I just hung out for a while until the Floor Meeting at 8:30, as Anna wanted to decorate the back of her card, and I had the largest set of permanent markers (Thanks, Mom!). It was a bit more my style with just two people to talk to rather than six or more.
So overall, this day was a bit harder than the ones were in the past, I don't think I even mentioned food so far, so I guess I'll leave a quick note here. The chow mien here is gross, don't eat it. But they had egg rolls so that made up for it I guess. I had alfredo with green peppers this time and that was pretty good, and of course, I had peach juice at dinner to help me through the group conversation. So yeah, I'm tired now and kind of ready to hit the hay. After all, I have my first day of classes tomorrow.
Wish me luck!
Goid luck sweetie. Love you. It will get easier.
